Invisalign® Q&A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign technology is a series of clear aligners you can wear over your teeth to slowly shift them into a more desirable alignment over time. The aligners are made of a special thermoplastic material that’s comfortable and invisible, so most people won’t know you’re wearing them. Dr. Kraft has been an Invisalign provider for more than 15 years. He treats both simple and complex cases.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Choosing Invisalign helps you achieve teeth that are:

  • Straighter
  • Easier to clean
  • Less gapped
  • Less crowded
  • More aesthetically pleasing
  • Better aligned

Invisalign treatment can correct specific problems with your bite including overbites, underbites, open bites, and crossbites. Doing so perfects your smile, speech, and chewing ability.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

To find out if Invisalign clear aligners are right for you, Dr. Kraft and his team review your medical and dental history, examine your mouth, and may use dental X-rays. If you’re an adult or teenager, have crooked, gapped, or crowded teeth, and desire straight teeth without wires or brackets, Invisalign might be the solution for you.

What should I expect during treatment?

During an Invisalign appointment at Payson Dental and Orthodontics, Dr. Kraft and his team digitally scan your teeth to develop computer-generated plastic aligners that gradually move your teeth into a more desirable position.

Once your aligners are ready, you can begin wearing them for 20-22 hours every day. Every one to two weeks after your teeth begin shifting, you switch to the next series of aligners until your teeth reach their desired position. Invisalign treatment typically lasts 12-18 months on average.

To properly care for your aligners, use the Invisalign cleaning system or brush them with toothpaste and a toothbrush. You can rinse aligners in warm water but avoid exposing them to hot water.

What happens after Invisalign treatment?

After your treatment is complete, you can enjoy your new beautifully straight teeth and smile. Dr. Kraft may recommend you wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting out of their new alignment. You might only need to wear a retainer at night or during certain times of the day.

If crooked, gapped, or misaligned teeth make you self-conscious about your smile, schedule an Invisalign consultation with the Payson Dental and Orthodontics team over the phone or online today.
