How to Prevent Tooth Loss

A healthy and full smile is important for many reasons. No one wants to lose the teeth that are supposed to serve them for a lifetime. And, no one wants to go through the pain and inconvenience associated with tooth loss Our dentist, Dr. Brian Kraft, and dental team want to help you keep your natural teeth as healthy and as strong as possible. We encourage you to do the following things:

-Prevent tooth decay. Tooth decay is a major cause of tooth loss. This is because the decay oftentimes spreads to the inner layers of the tooth and damages the tooth beyond repair. In this case, extraction is necessary. It’s best to prevent decay by keeping up on oral hygiene and attending your dental checkups.

-Prevent gum disease. Gum disease is another cause of tooth loss. If it’s left untreated, it deteriorates the underlying bone and causes loose and lost teeth. It’s best to prevent gum disease by keeping up on oral hygiene and attending your regular dental checkups.

-Prevent oral injuries. Blows to the face can knock your teeth out of your mouth. To keep this from happening, wear a mouthguard while you participate in contact sports and similar activities.
