Details on Proper Oral Hygiene When You’re Aligning Your Smile

Even though your braces are strong enough to shift your teeth into their proper positions, they aren’t quite strong enough to handle poor treatment. This means you need to care for them each and every day with a proper oral hygiene routine. If you clean and care for your braces, you can have a better and more convenient orthodontic treatment. To help you have a proper oral hygiene routine, Dr. Brian Kraft has some recommendations for you.

First, make it a priority to brush your teeth after you eat, even if it’s just a snack. As you brush, use effective tools, like a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brushing while you have braces might prove to be challenging, so if you need to, use an interdental brush to clean the hard-to-reach areas around your braces.

Second, floss your teeth daily. If possible, floss after you eat, just like brushing. This will help because it will remove food particles from your teeth and braces (which can help you prevent dental issues) and help you avoid having an embarrassing food-filled smile. As you floss, use the floss threader to make the job a little easier.

Third, rinse your mouth with a fluoride or antibacterial mouth rinse daily. This can help you clean the spaces both your toothbrush and floss couldn’t clean and it can help you have a pristine breath.
